Ons Huis' Handmade Products

Ons Huis is a non-profit organisation situated in Elarduspark, Pretoria. The organisation itself was made through the efforts of a group of parents, determined to develop a safe haven for their mentally handicapped children and provide them the means to live as normal lives as they could given the circumstances.

The goal was to create a protective home and an activity centre, allowing those with special needs to receive the proper care they deserve and allow them to grow as much as they can both emotionally and spiritually. From there, the organisation strives to allow these people to make a contribution to the community at large, however large or small that may be.

This dream, to allow those with different mental abilities to live as normal a life as they can, was the backbone of Ons Huis, and the organisation boasts two major facilities: “Luilekker”, their accommodation centre, and “Miernes”, their activity centre.

From the activity centre, those with mental disabilities are capable of being stimulated, receiving emotional support as well. It’s from Miernes that Ons Huis helps these people to make various products by hand, stimulating them and allowing them the pleasures of creating something, then selling those products to help sustain Ons Huis and ensure that those under their care will receive the best love, care, and support they possibly can.
